At Girls on the Run, we believe that every girl deserves a safe space to grow, connect, and shine. But behind every empowered girl is a team of incredible volunteer coaches who show up with heart, dedication, and a whole lot of encouragement.
So what does it really mean to be a GOTR coach? And why do so many keep coming back season after season?
💖 More Than a Coach — A Mentor, Cheerleader, and Role Model
Being a coach isn’t about being a runner. It’s about showing up—consistently—for a group of girls who are learning how to believe in themselves. It’s about creating a safe, supportive space where they can talk openly, try new things, and feel seen and heard.
Coaches lead fun, engaging lessons that teach life skills like confidence, teamwork, goal-setting, and empathy—all wrapped around movement-based activities that keep girls moving and motivated.
And yes, we finish the season with a 5K, but it’s not about speed—it’s about crossing the finish line together.
🗣️ Why Coaches Love the Experience
We hear it all the time:
“I signed up to make a difference… and it changed me too.”
Here’s what our Worcester County coaches say:
✨ "It’s the highlight of my week."
✨ "I’ve grown in my own confidence just by helping these girls find theirs."
✨ "The joy, the laughter, the real conversations—it’s all so powerful."
Whether you're a teacher, a parent, a upper-classman student, or someone just looking to give back—you belong here. We provide all the training, materials, and support you need. You just bring your time, your heart, and your belief in the power of girls.
🏃♀️ You Don’t Have to Be a Runner
Seriously. If you can walk, skip, or cheer—you’re ready to coach. The curriculum is laid out for you, and you’ll be partnered with at least one other coach, so you’re never alone.
Coaches typically commit to two afternoons per week for 8-10 weeks, and it’s an experience that leaves a lasting impact—on the girls and on you.
