As summer comes to a close and school supplies start filling up your backpack, it’s completely normal to feel both excited and nervous. Whether you're starting a new grade, returning to familiar hallways, or walking into a brand-new school, we want you to know: you’ve got what it takes to make this your best school year yet.
At Girls on the Run Worcester County, we know that every girl is strong, smart, and resilient — and with the right tools (both emotional and practical), you can handle anything that comes your way.
Here are some confidence-boosting tips and organization strategies to help you start the school year strong — inside and out:
💖 Emotional Tips: Starting Strong from the Inside
1. Be Kind to Yourself
Big changes can stir up big emotions. You might feel nervous, excited, unsure — or all of the above. That’s okay! Take a breath, give yourself a pep talk, and remember: You’ve handled challenges before, and you can do it again.
2. Use Your Star Power
You’ve already got the strength inside you to make great choices, stay true to yourself, and face the unknown with courage. That’s your Star Power — shine bright!
3. Connect with Your Team
Just like your GOTR team cheers you on, find friends, teachers, or family members who support and uplift you. School is better when you feel have have a kind group to walk alongside you!
🧠 Technical Tips: Tools to Stay Organized and Confident
4. Set a Morning Routine
Create a calm, consistent morning routine to start each day right. Lay out clothes the night before, pack your backpack, and try to get up at the same time each day. A little planning = a lot less stress.
5. Use a Planner or Calendar
Whether it’s a paper planner, wall calendar, or app on your phone, keeping track of homework, projects, and important dates can help you stay on top of things — and feel more in control.
6. Create a Homework Station
Designate a quiet, clutter-free space at home to do homework. Keep it stocked with pencils, notebooks, chargers — whatever you need to stay focused and distraction-free. (Put your phone away or with your guardian while you're focusing on homework.)
7. Break Big Tasks into Small Steps
Feeling overwhelmed? Break down big assignments into smaller, manageable steps. Use the “run-walk” mindset from GOTR: one step at a time gets you to the finish line.
8. Stick to a Sleep Schedule
Sleep is super important for your brain and body. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day to help you feel your best in the classroom (and on the field!).
9. Ask for Help When You Need It
Strong girls ask for help. If you’re struggling with a subject or feeling unsure about something, talk to a teacher, friend, or adult you trust. You are never alone.
🌟 Final Word: You’ve Got This (Really!)
You’re not just going back to school — you’re stepping into a year full of possibilities. You’re ready to learn, grow, and shine in your own unique way. And remember: no matter what comes your way, your GOTR team is cheering you on every step of the way.
Believe in yourself. Trust your strength. Stay organized. And don’t forget to smile.
Wishing you a school year full of confidence, connection, and kindness 💛
